featureSign in with just an email link
You can now sign in with an email link instead of Google — enter your email on the sign-in screen and a one-time link arrives, valid for 15 minutes. If you already have a Google account under that email, the email link signs into the same account.

infraRemoved unused internal pages
Cleaned out several old internal debug and admin pages that were no longer part of the app. No change to anything you use.
Oct 22
improvementSlate theme rebuilt: white and gray, with the accent kept for structure
Slate now opens on a true white background with medium-gray text and shadows carrying the depth, instead of borders. The amber accent is reserved for the handful of lines the app actually draws — the top bar's rule, the running timer's spine, the active status strip's border, a blockquote's rule, and the text cursor. Everything else — buttons, badges, hover states — is grayscale.
Oct 22
featureText size now goes a step smaller
Added a fourth step (XS) below Small in Text size, in the menu's A-/A+ control. Also fixed a bug where, if you'd never touched text size before, the app could silently load at the smallest size instead of the Medium default.
Oct 15
featureArchive replaces the old in-note Done pile
"Move to Done" is now "Archive Done items" — checked-off tasks leave your note entirely and move into a new Archive view (Open Archive), still grouped by project and activity the same way the Time Log is. Nothing in the Archive is editable; it's a record, not a working list.
Oct 13
improvementToday window is bigger and easier to read
The Today modal now fills most of the screen (about 92% of the viewport) with larger type throughout, instead of a fixed-width box that left most of a big screen empty.
Oct 13
fixFirst load could leave the app unresponsive until a refresh
After signing in, the very first load sometimes left buttons and typing completely unresponsive until the page was refreshed a second time. The sign-in redirect was skipping the startup code that wires up every control — it now always runs.

Sep 23
fixPasted text could leave the cursor in the wrong place
Pasting into a line could drop the cursor at the start of the line, or at the end of the pasted text instead of where it belonged. The rebuild that runs right after a paste wasn't restoring the cursor afterward — now it is.
Sep 22
featureToday view offers to merge near-duplicate project headings
If two project headings look like the same project with a typo ("Acme Corp" vs "Acme Corp."), the Today view now notices and offers a one-click merge — dismissible, and it won't ask about the same pair twice.
Sep 22
featureToday's untagged list can expand and collapse
Items without a [now]/[later]/[assign]/[park] tag used to always show in full in the Today view. That list can now be collapsed to just a count, and expanded again when you want to see it.
Sep 22
fixProfile panel could open in the wrong place after scrolling
Opening the profile panel after scrolling down could show it hanging at a fixed distance down the page instead of under the nav bar where you're looking — the same bug already fixed for the menu drawer. Now it's always anchored to the nav bar.
Sep 20
featureCtrl+/ (Cmd+/ on Mac) collapses and expands all sections
New keyboard shortcut for Collapse all — if any section is expanded, it folds everything; if all are already collapsed, it expands everything. Layout-independent: matches the / character so it works on AZERTY and other non-US keyboards too. Same as clicking Collapse all in the nav bar, and shown in the button's tooltip.
Sep 20
featureToday button shows your Now count
The Today button now shows the number of [now] items inline — "Today · 3". Turns amber when the count exceeds five. When you clear the last [now] item, the button briefly shows a ✓ before resetting. Ctrl+G still opens and closes the modal.
Sep 20
featureCollapse all sections at once
"Collapse all" is now in the nav bar alongside the individual H1 chevrons. One tap folds every project section simultaneously. Individual sections can still be expanded independently after.
Sep 20
improvementMenu reorganized into groups
The burger menu now groups its controls under labeled sections: Text (font size, family), Note (Move to Done, Collapse all, Clear log, History), Sync (sync now, check for updates), Theme (Light/Dark/Auto, Slate), and Read (Help, Privacy, Terms). Easier to find what you need.
Sep 20
fixTimer always starts on the right line
The timer now starts on whatever line the cursor is actually on. Previously, in some cases it would start on the previously-selected line rather than the current one. Also: the clock in the nav bar stopped updating every second in some scroll positions — now fixed.
Sep 20
improvementLegible section rule
Blank lines between sections now render as a faint horizontal rule — just enough to give the eye a pause without adding visual weight. Configurable: the rule only appears if two or more consecutive blank lines are present, so spaced notes don't get cluttered.
Sep 20
improvementTappable H1 chevron area
The collapse chevron next to H1 headings now has a larger tap target — the whole left-gutter area is tappable, not just the small icon. Makes collapsing sections reliable on mobile.
Sep 20
improvementAuto-hiding nav bar
The nav bar now hides when you scroll down and reappears when you scroll up — giving the note more vertical room without losing access to the timer pill or Today button. The bar always reappears immediately on any upward scroll, even a small one.
Sep 20
improvementMobile nav simplified
On phones (≤768px), the AI Tidy button and ⓘ button are removed from the nav bar. Both remain accessible via the burger menu. The mobile nav now shows: burger · Desklog · Today · timer pill · avatar.
Sep 20
featureSection hierarchy line
A subtle vertical line now runs down the left gutter of all content under an H1 heading — no text moves, no indent. The line disappears automatically when you collapse the section via the chevron, and reappears on expand. Works as a pair with H1 collapse: the line closing is the visual confirmation the section is closed.
Sep 20
improvementBullet indent
Bulleted lines now indent 1.25em — scales with the editor font size. Wrapped text hangs to the text's own left edge rather than back under the dot. The indent also applies while editing the line, so it no longer jumps sideways as the caret enters and leaves.
Sep 20
improvementBurger icon — unified with the logo
Background pill removed. Icon now matches the logo's color and height — reads as "≡ Desklog" as one unit. Touch target preserved via an invisible hit area extension.
Sep 20
improvementResponsive font sizing
The A-/A+ font size steps now scale proportionally with viewport width on phones using CSS clamp(). Desktop rendering is unchanged — the scaling only applies at phone widths where 24px serif was cramping text to ~22 characters per line.
Sep 20
fixCheckbox rendering on mobile
Hardened checkbox styling against mobile browser native-rendering fallbacks — several engines ignore appearance:none alone and paint a grey square on tap. Fixed with additional CSS resets targeting known failure modes across iOS, Android WebView, and Firefox mobile.
Sep 18
fixBurger menu now opens in view — always
The burger drawer was anchored to the document rather than the viewport — opening it after scrolling showed a blank area until you scrolled back up. Now fixed with position: fixed pinned dynamically to the nav bar's actual position. A backdrop overlay now covers the rest of the screen while the drawer is open.
Sep 18
featureAutomatic snapshots and sync health
Daily snapshots now taken automatically at local midnight (Free tier, 15-day retention). Pro tier gets a snapshot every 3 hours (30-day retention, plus one per month for 12 months). The status strip now warns when sync hasn't happened in 20+ minutes or a snapshot is overdue. Burger drawer shows "Last snapshot: X ago" at all times.
Sep 17
improvementPriority tag chips — uniform width
All four chips now render at the same width (sized to the longest — "assign"), so tags line up cleanly in the left margin regardless of label length.
Sep 16
featureH1 section collapse
A small chevron next to each H1 heading collapses everything under it — tasks, sub-headings, all content — leaving just the heading visible. Click again to expand. Useful for large notes with multiple projects.
Sep 16
featureTimer pill in nav bar
The timer now lives in the nav bar as a compact ▶/■ pill — always visible, always accessible. Running state shows the clock and task name inline. Stopped state briefly shows logged duration then clears. Pause and Reset removed — start and stop are the only two states.
Sep 16
fixNav bar now stays visible while scrolling
The nav bar is now sticky — it stays at the top of the viewport as the note content scrolls. Required for the timer pill to always be accessible.
Full pill radius in both collapsed and expanded states. Collapsed state now shows live digits with "TIMER" label stacked underneath. Status dot added — muted when idle, green with glow when running. Collapse toggle is now a filled circular chevron.
Sep 12
featureKeyboard shortcuts — Ctrl+G, Ctrl+E, Ctrl+S, Ctrl+,
Ctrl+G opens/closes the Today modal. Ctrl+E starts or stops the timer on the selected line. Ctrl+S forces an immediate sync. Ctrl+, opens the burger menu. All visible in the updated ⓘ cheat sheet.
Sep 12
improvementⓘ button — keyboard cheat sheet
The info card is now a quick-reference cheat sheet: keyboard shortcuts, syntax, and priority tags in three sections. One glance, everything you need. Full documentation at Help.
Sep 11
improvementDiff modal — larger and scroll-synced
Diff view now opens at 95% viewport width with 70vh panes. Both sides scroll in sync — row-aligned so the same hunk always lines up on both sides, even across pure insertions or deletions.
Tab now inserts a tab character instead of moving focus out of the editor. Only intercepted inside the editor — Tab still navigates normally everywhere else.
Sep 11
featureAI Tidy shows a diff before applying
AI Tidy now shows exactly what it wants to change — additions in green, deletions in red — before touching your note. Accept or reject. If you accept and regret it, a one-click "Undo Tidy" pill stays in the status strip until your next edit.
Sep 11
featureColor-coded diff for conflicts, history, and AI Tidy
A shared diff module now powers three surfaces: the server-vs-local conflict modal, history restore preview, and AI Tidy. Row-aligned with scroll sync — both sides stay locked as you scroll.
Sep 10
featureCollapsible timer strip
The timer strip now collapses to a small icon when you're not actively timing. Expands on click. Remembers your preference across sessions — new accounts start collapsed.
Sep 10
featureMove to Done
Files all checked tasks under a # Done heading at the bottom of your note in one step. Fully undoable with Ctrl+Z. Good end-of-day habit — clears visual noise without deleting anything.
Sep 10
improvementPriority tag visual update
Chips are now slightly richer — higher background opacity, matching border, bolder label text. They read as badges rather than inline text decorations.
Sep 10
fixPriority tags now case-insensitive
[NOW], [Now], and [now] all work. Previously only lowercase matched.
Sep 9
featureCSV time log export
Copy billing-ready time totals grouped by client name — one button, ready to paste onto an invoice or into a spreadsheet.
Sep 9
featureVersion history with restore
Daily snapshots are taken automatically — 15-day retention on Free. Open History from the burger menu to browse and restore any snapshot. Your current note is always saved before a restore.
Sep 9
featureToday view — quadrant board
Hit Today to see your four priority tags as an Eisenhower-style quadrant board. Counts per tag, your full [now] list, and a warning if it exceeds five.
Sep 4
featureAI Tidy
Send your note to Claude with one click. Fixes spelling, removes exact duplicates, sharpens vague task language. Preserves every heading, tag, checkbox, and pipe. 40 uses per day on Free.
Sep 4
featureGoogle sign-in and cross-device sync
Sign in with Google. Your note syncs automatically across devices. Offline changes save locally and sync when you reconnect.
